What is Safer Internet Day?
It is a day designated to teach ways to make the internet safer and accessible to all. This year’s theme is targeted at keeping the internet safer especially for children.
In today’s world the internet plays a large part in the lives of children. Many children use platforms to play games and connect socially. While the internet has many benefits like providing education and ways to express creativity and connect with others online, it can also contribute to low self-esteem, anxiety and cyber bullying.
This year’s theme encourages adults to teach children how to navigate platforms safely while staying mindful of what he/she is posting by utilizing Connect. Reflect. Protect.
Connect safely and with purpose by keeping apps and devices secure and using social media in positive ways.
Reflect before acting by taking a moment to consider how what we do and say online may affect others.
Protect ourselves and others by taking action by telling family, friends or colleagues about safer internet usage.
Safer Internet Day is a perfect time to talk to children about safer internet usage. For more info, visit their website here.
